shout out to my 77 year old nan asking my cousin to make her a “woke pride” shirt she can wear so conservative old people will stop assuming she agrees with them
“can we normalize-” NO!!!!!! we do not need to expand whats considered normal!!! we need to teach people to stop reacting judgmentally when encountering something new and weird!!!! things dont need to be normal to be respected!!!!!!!!!!
Okay so in case y'all don’t know, this is from Pose. A series about the black trans community and ball culture in new York during the 80’s. Its got vogueing, lgbt+ culture, history, drama, romance, comedy, tragedy. Its wonderful and historically accurate and all the trans people are playedby real trans actors.
being on tumblr is like being in a car in a parking lot
like it’s technically public, but you’re also sorta in your own little bubble, and people have to be Actively trying to listen in order to hear you, if they’re even aware that you’re speaking at all. and then sometimes you accidentally bonk the horn with ur elbow and suddenly the whole parking lot knows you’re a virgin
bestie I appreciate the enthusiasm but this post doesn’t even have 50 notes yet lol. lil’ early for that.
Must a post have lots of notes to have 10k to me? This may never reach so many people but it reached me and I laughed.
im tired of seeing posts meant to protect trans people like “if you’re trans or nonbinary, for the next 4 years no you’re not. at least not publicly, just survive” and honestly fuck that. that’s a very personal and private decision that every queer person needs to make right now. if going stealth or pausing your transition for safety is what you need to do, then do it, and im sorry we can’t make a world for you where you feel safe to be unapologetically yourself. but we need people who are openly and enthusiastically queer. existing as trans in the united states is a protest in itself right now.
for a lot of trans adults (including me) who already began transitioning many years ago & have undergone a significant amount of legal/social/medical intervention there is no practical way for us to be either stealth OR closeted, at least not 100% of the time.
I mean for example I’m a butch lesbian who looks kinda androgynous, kinda feminine, kinda masculine. Different people look at me and assume various different genders. Happens every day. but by a lot of standards I am legally and medically “female.” It took me a lot of fucking effort to get my legal gender markers all changed from M to F, I’m sure as hell not gonna pay to get them changed back.
